Cornelius Basse

I remember a time when Malifaux’s Guild Faction seemed like the most boring faction to me. They had a few scattered models that looked like Cowboys with [BLANK] where [BLANK] was some other theme I was equally uninterested in. Sometimes change is good and I have to say Wyrd Miniatures has been hitting it out of the park with their Guild sculpts and themes since Book 4 of 2nd edition. Today I am going to ramble about Cornelius Basse, a new Guild Master, and why I am hyped for him and his crew.

Now I’m sure your thinking looking at the cover art up above that I was just picking on Guild for having a lot of Cowboys and here I am with what at first glance look like Cowboys and you’d be partially right about that. This isn’t just any Cowboy, however, this is the Frontier Lawmen himself: 100% law-bringing, justice enforcing, dust cloud adjacent bad a$$. Stepping onto the 3 x 3 complete with a healing action called Stoic Nod, a Chesterfield Shotgun packing a 3/4/5 damage spread with a blast on each, and a handful of control effects including discarding scheme markers and summoning dust clouds Cornelius is the entire Western experience in a single model and that’s freaking awesome. One of the things that attracted me to Nicodem back in 1.0 was that he made his own creepy fog for his zombies to shamble out of because it created this super thematic on table experience and Mr Basse does this, as well, while having a diverse and fun looking kit.

The Frontier box includes Basse himself, 3 frontiersmen, Bernadette Basse, and Johnathan Reichart (who was voted “Most Likely to be kit bashed or proxied” in Frontier school). In typical Wyrd fashion you’ll be getting some highly detailed high quality sculpts and stat cards for each model for around 50 USD (Which is about 935.04 USD back in Western Times if my 3 minutes of Googling is to be trusted). I know I’ll be picking up this Crew Box when it hits the shelves within the next month or so as it looks like more fun than you can shake a cattle prod at! Keep your eyes open for this Release from Wyrd Minatures when it rides into the sunset this July.
